  3. This file contains a brief program description, evaluation
  4. license terms, installation instructions, and information on
  5. obtaining technical support.

  8. Program Description
  9.  
  10. MI is a powerful tool that helps individual investors and
  11. professional money managers organize and analyze the
  12. information that is critical to making informed investment
  13. decisions.  MI features:
  14.  
  15. *  Comprehensive portfolio management.  MI provides complete
  16. tracking of security and cash transactions with automatic
  17. computation of net worth, capital gains, return on
  18. investment, asset  allocation and much more. MI allows you
  19. to orgainze your information into up to 1,000 portfolios and
  20. produce reports based on any combination of one or more
  21. portfolios.

  23. *  Technical analysis. MI creates and displays technical
  24. analysis charts with your choice of technical indicators
  25. including moving averages, stochastics, on-balance volume,
  26. relative strength index, MACD, trend analysis, ratio cantor
  27. and correlation analysis.

  29. *  Built-in Price Loader.  Just download price/volume data
  30. from your favorite information provider and use MI's Import
  31. option to update all your charts and portfolios. We have pre-
  32. defined import formats for over a dozen popular information
  33. services such as Compuserve, Prodigy, AOL, Quote.Com and
  34. more. If your service is not included you can easily add it
  35. by defining a new data format.

  37. *  Support for sophistocated trades. MI fully supports all
  38. IRS approved cost basis accounting methods for stocks,
  39. bonds, mutual funds, short sales, put options and call
  40. options. MI also provides an automatic sweep of funds to and
  41. from cash accounts when entering security transactions and
  42. investment income.

  44. *  Asset allocation.  MI produces reports and graphs showing
  45. the allocation of assets by portfolio, by type and by user
  46. defined investment objective.

  48. *  Powerful report generator. Our report generator lets you
  49. customize each of the over 20 reports to include any time
  50. span and any combination of portfolios so you get just the
  51. information you need.

  56. This program is licensed for evaluation only.

  58. You are hereby granted a license to use this software for an
  59. evaluation period of up to 30 days.  If you continue to use
  60. this software beyond the evaluation period you must purchase
  61. a license.  DO NOT install this software if you do not agree
  62. to the terms of this evaluation license.

  65. System Requirements
  66.  
  67. MI requires Windows 3.1 or higher, a hard disk with
  68. approximately 2.5 megabytes of free space, 4 Megabytes of
  69. RAM, and a Windows compatible graphics printer.  In your
  70. Config.Sys file, the parameter "Files=" should be set to 40
  71. or more.
  72.  
  73. Master Investor requires a default printer be defined in the
  74. windows control panel.  Choose the "Printers" icon from the
  75. Windows Control Panel.  If no printers have been installed,
  76. you will need to install one. If you already have installed
  77. printers choose one that is capable of printing truetype
  78. fonts (i.e. a graphics printer and not a fax modem).  After
  79. installing or selecting a printer, click the "Set as
  80. Default" button to set the printer as your default windows
  81. printer.

  84. Upgrading from an earlier version.
  85.  
  86. Before installing this version use your present version of
  87. MI to make a backup disk of your data.  In the File menu
  88. choose the Backup Data option to make the backup disk.  This
  89. is a precautionary measure.

  91. During the installation process you will be prompted to
  92. choose either "Full Installation" or "Upgrade Installation."
  93. If you choose "Upgrade Installation" your present data files
  94. will be preserved.  If you accidently choose Full
  95. Installation, your present data files will be overwritten
  96. and you will need to choose the "Restore Data" option to
  97. restore your backup data for use with the new version.

  100. Installation:

  102. To prepare for installation, unzip the archive to a blank
  103. formatted floppy disk (1.4 Meg capacity or higher) or to an
  104. empty (scratch) directory on your hard disk.
  105.  
  106. To install MI, use the Program Manager or File Manager to
  107. start mi201.exe.  For example, if you are installing from
  108. drive A:
  109.  
  110. 1.   From the Program Manager File or Win95 Start menu,
  111.      choose Run.
  112. 2.   In the Run dialog box, type "a:mi201" and choose OK.
  113.  
  114. The install program will allow you to select the drive and
  115. directory where MI will be installed.  The default is C:\MI.
  116. If you are reinstalling MI or installing an updated version,
  117. use the same directory where you originally installed the
  118. program.

  121. Starting MI
  122.  
  123. The data files shipped with MI contain sample data that is
  124. provided to help you become familiar with the various
  125. options and capabilities of MI.  The sample data covers the
  126. period January 1995 through December 1996.  The Learning Master
  127. Investor section of the User's Guide contains a step-by-step
  128. guide to getting acquainted with MI.

  133. If you are unable to resolve a question or you have
  134. difficulty running MI, please call or send us a letter
  135. describing the problem.  Include the exact text of the error
  136. message (if any) and a complete description of the problem,
  137. your computer system (computer, memory, graphics card, DOS
  138. and Windows version, contents of CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
  139. files, etc.), the option you were running when the error
  140. occurred and any supplemental data that you entered under
  141. the option. If sending a letter, please also nclude a disk
  142. created using the File/Backup Data option (your data will be
  143. held in strict confidence).  We will investigate the problem
  144. and respond as quickly as possible.
